To epilate or not to epilate?

So I heard about this Epil X-elle Epilator from Braun, and I think it would be a great idea to not have to shave every single day... especially in the Summer when you want to spend as much time as you can shopping and on the beach. So sometimes I go to the salon for waxing... but my hairs have to be like 3-5 mm for the wax to grab them. I'm wondering how long it takes to like epilate one leg. And do you have to go over a piece more than one time for all the hair to come up? I've never tried an epilator before... advice PLEASE!!

So I've seen about 2 questions today about shaving a baby's head. It's an Asian custom, and many Asians believe that it will allow the baby's hair to grow in stronger, nicer, and faster. Many people have said that it's a stupid idea and have been appalled that people do this to their babies.

FYI: Many people I know have done this and their babies have never even received a nick or a razor burn. So if there is no risk of harm to the baby, would you still have the same response?

Also, is it really right for you Westerners to criticize this custom when you cut off a piece of your son's penises? At least hair grows back!

If this is part of a person's culture and it doesn't cause any harm to a baby at all, then why should you call that person's culture and practice stupid?

We, as Americans, do lots of things for vanity (removing cradle cap, worrying about baby acne, etc.) regarding our babies. This isn't very different.

Anyone can do what they want but me personally would be afraid to put sharp objects by the baby's head cause of how fragile their skin is and head is. As far as cradle cap goes, I think most people try to get rid of it because it's itchy and uncomfy for baby. The circumsition I guess is just recommended more or less for personal hygeine purposes. I've been told it's easier to take care of and clean when it is circumsized. My son was circumsized but it wasn't done good enough so he still has skin, it is a pain that he is 3 1/2 and have to pull back the skin and clean it while he's screaming and crying...kind of traumatic. Til you've been through it, don't judge, that's what I live by! Goodluck.

I realize that it is the culture, and I respect that. The question I saw just a few minutes ago was from a Mom who seemed hesitant to do it, her family is asking her to do so. If the Mom is hesitant or needs to ask people on Yahoo Answers if she should do it, then she really truly doesn't want to shave her baby's head. :) She needn't do it just to make her in-laws happy.

shaving bald right down to the skin is inappropriate. I have 2 sons and i never even cut their hair until about 8 months, most babies at birth have some hair even if you can't see it and it falls out then thicker hair grows back, but shaving bald what is the point really. do you honestly think a baby needs to go thru all that just cause its something the parents want? Babies don't know about vanity at such a young age so why bother putting them through it. Yes i have had my sons circumcised but for vanity when they become adults, can you imagine how painful it would be to have foreskin removed as an adult. If you love your baby as he/she is there should be no reason for shaving the head for looks or to make hair healthier, you can use organic shampoos which can make your hair look healthier.

The only disagreement I kinda of have is I've seen baby's where their hair is shaved to like the skin and the baby looks sickly to me. They look as if they have been through vigorous rounds of chemotherapy. I notice people tend to stare also. I plan on shaveing my son' hair also just not bald to the skin. Everyone has a preference and don't let anyone judge you or your customs.

I have a standard older bathtub that drains out through a 1-piece metal ring with an x-shaped catch. The catch has a huge clump of hair that is clogging the drain.

Is this metal piece supposed to be lifted out? If not, how am I supposed to get the hair clump without it falling down the drainpipe and stopping in the trap?

I would recommend AGAINST removing the trap. It might be old and using a great deal of force might break it causing more problems.

If you can get to the hair with tweezers, pliers, coat hanger, etc, then try to pull as much out as possible.

Then you can take a plunger and try dislodging the clog. You will have to plug up the vent (located about 6 inches from the top of the tub) to prevent the air being forced down the drain from excaping through this vent. Holding a wet towel against the vent works fairly well.

I also do NOT recommend using Draino or any other caustic fluid. If it doesn't work, then you now have an additional problem...that is very causitic fluid that can splash onto you.

You can use a snake by running it down the vent (the part you hold the wet towel against). You can also try running a water hose down the vent. This works fairly well. But again a word of caution. The water hose can create a lot of pressure and the drain pipes aren't designed for this type of pressue. Using the water hose sparelying frequently works.

If the clog is past all of this, then you'll probably have to go outside and find the clean out (probably none for the bathroom) or go on top of the roof and push a long snake down the roof top vent tube past the clog. When you see a professional on top of the roof, this is exactly what they are doing.

I've seen this product at The Home Depot, but it could be at other stores in the plumbing dept.....

It is a piece of plastic about 2 feet long, about 1/2 inch wide, flat and white, with a jagged edge. It is meant to be placed down a drain and pulled back up with the clog catching on the jagged edge. You then dispose of this plastic piece.

Otherwise, try the coathanger!

There is a special wrench that you can buy to remove that ring. It had like 4 prongs on the one end and fits in there .... and then you turn it. It's very strong and takes a good amount of tork to get it started ......

There is normally ..... a round plate with small holes in it that is screwed into this drain ..... that prevents the small stuff from going down there .....

After you try to get as much hair/debris out with whatever object you use, try using a regular old plunger if there is still standing water. Pour boiling water down the drain about once a month to keep the pipes clean for maintenance. Use Drain-o/Liquid Plumer or other type products as a last resort.

Don't remove the tub shoe because you run the risk of damaging it or the pipe underneath, if you are a novice. Take needle nose pliers and remove the hair. It will take a couple of minutes however is worth it to prevent further unnecessary problems.

The item Onecharliecat is referring to is called Zip-it. It is a plastic device about 18" long with protrusions, like teeth on the sides, and a handle on the end. Just hold the handle, and push the other end into the drain, and remove the hair. DON'T use Drano, or any other chemical, as they will react with the pipes, and eat them from the inside. This tool is about $3-$4 at Lowes or Home Depot. Good luck to you!

I recently discovered a bald patch in my hair, a little bigger than a 50 pence piece. I have a doctors appointment on Monday, but i have a feeling it is alopecia as other members in my family have suffered in the past.Luckily i have a good head of hair, so i can cover it, and hopefully it will grow back of its own accord. Does anyone else suffer and any advice, as its really un-nerving to find bald spots on your head! (Im a 28 year old woman, by the way).

No I don't my friend does really badly. She had more space than hair, as it was coming out in handfuls until she gave up and shaved it off. (She's a punk though).

She bought some fantastic wigs that are so good no one realises they are wigs. I've even borrowed one.

Hers was triggered by stress as her son was seriously ill at the time. As things got better and with counselling as her hair started to grow it grew back normally. She did have a reaccourance but it was alot less severe, and she is now enjoying longish hair.

I had these bald spots several times, especially when I was working in a fairly stressful job. Both my GP and hairdresser said they were "Nervous Alopecia" and the less I worried about it, the quicker I would recover from it.

Meanwhile, the hairdresser devised ways of covering one which was particularly annoying right on my crown. They weren't so bad in the nape of your neck.

Now nearing 70 and haven't had any for a good 20 years (but then I don't work anymore)

I know it sounds scary but try not to be (easier said than done i know) stress can make alopecia worse so try and stay calm about the whole thing. 2 male guinea pigs problem..?

I got 2 male guinea pigs about a months ago.. theyre both about 5 months old ... they have lived together for ever but recently they grind their teeth at eachother and one day im pretty sure one(dobby) had a piece of the other's(spike's) hair in his mouth. dobby seems to be bigger than spike and when they grind their teeth at eachother they raise their heads right to eachother so their noses are touching. dobby gets into a wierd position like he is ready for battle. does anyone know what theyre doing? is this dominance? we have them separated right now, has anyone had this problem? what should i do?

Since your boys are still in their adolescence, they are more likely to fight than normal and are sorting out who is boss. There are a lot of things you can do to help resolve this. One important thing to realize is that you should not separate, then reintroduce, your guinea pigs often as they have to start the process all over again every time they meet. Whenever possible, keep them together so they can work it out. Unless someone gets seriously injured, don't separate them. I know it can be very hard to watch them challenge each other, but keep in mind that a lot of it is show. They will rumble-strut, mount, chase, pull fur, and chatter their teeth during the re-introduction process, and all of that is normal. Unless there is bloodshed, keep them together. Introduce them on neutral territory and have an over mitt, towel, or dust pan handy to break up a fight if it's necessary.

Make sure their cage is as big as it can possibly be, and provide two of everything so they have no reason to be territorial. Two hidey houses, food bowls, water bottles, hay racks, etc. After they have been introduced in neutral territory, be sure to have the cage completely cleaned so there is no scent left over when you place them in it. Clean the floor and the bars of the cage, the water bottles, food bowls, etc- a vinegar/water solution is a safe and effective way to do this.

If these methods still don't work, you might want to try doing a "buddy bath." The experience of going through a bath is rather traumatizing for a guinea pig, and they will bond with one another if they go through it together. It will also reduce their smells so they aren't identifiable as enemies to one another.

Some male guinea pigs may not be able to live together unless they have a huge amount of space, otherwise they will fight. Yours are probably starting to get to the age of being sexually mature, that's why things are changing. I would keep them separated to be on the safe side... you don't want to come home and find one of them injured from a fight.

Female guinea pigs are usually OK with living together in pairs or groups.

This does sound like they are sorting out whos gonna be boss, and i would not have seperated them unless a fur flying fight occured, i know it seems harsh to see them do this but it is their nature. When you say you seen hair in your pigs mouth it may be a case of barbering due to the more dominant pig showing authority and is a less aggresive way of showing who is boss rather than a fight. Now you say they are seperated well i would'nt just put them together again, you may need to let them be together in a run or similar with treats for about 1hr a day to introduce them both again. good luck.

My mother is an aesthetician and has performed electrolysis on men and women. Traditionally, electrolysis involved some pain although nothing excruciating. I would imagine getting your back tattoo'd would be more painful, especially where the skin is thin and bones protrude. However, there is a new method of electrolysis that is supposed to be virtually painless. Unfortunately I don't know what this method is called but I'm sure google can help you there.

Btw, contrary to popular belief, electrolysis is NOT necessarily a permanent hair removal technique although it does prevent regrowth for a long period of time. You may have to go in for repeat treatments every couple years or so.

Electrolysis is very expensive and when done correctly it is permanent. Problem is, finding someone who can treat the follicle without penetrating the follicle wall. It takes several treatments and is very expensive and painful. Laser will take time and $$ but will eventually thin the hair out so it doesn't come back as quickly or as thick. Have you considered waxing on a regular basis? If you wax regularly the hair will thin out and growth will slow.

Electrolysis is tedious and while I wouldn't necessarily call it painful, the sensation can be unpleasant depending on your tolerance. For instance, I have no problems when it's been done on my abdomen, but for my upper lip, I cringe. Both electrolysis and laser are costly, but electrolysis is not only costly, but very time consuming since they can only treat one follicle at a time. I live in Wisconsin, and it costs $50 an hour. And when I go in to have my abdomen and bikini done, I can usually get half of one area treated during a one hour session. It's expensive since it takes a lot of sessions to obtain true permanence.

I think they are prefectly right to not that you wear bandana. They are sometimes symbols of gang colors and other related things and the school is protecting you. Chain can also be a safety concern. They are just trying to make sure everyone plays nice and noone gets hurt.

my school's dress code was worse than this we weren't allowed to wear pajama pants, or some sweat pants, athletic shorts, midriff baring tops. Plus skirts had to reach 6 inches above the ground while kneeling, and shirts had to have straps that were atleast three inches wide.

And only during august september and may we could wear flip flops and boys allowed to wear shorts, and girls capris.

some schools dress codes only allow you to wear kahkis and polos

and some actually require a uniform.

it's not that big of a deal, it's four miniscule years of your life.

besides it's supposed to help you learn how to dress professionally and for the real world. chains and bandanas aren't fashionable anyhow.

I am wondering if anyone could help me please. My cat was an outdoor/indoor cat up until about 2 weeks ago, he got into a bad cat/animal fight and was severely wounded with a high fever and had to stay in the hospital for 6 days. He was also neutered during his stay.

Now that he's home I've decided to make him a stricly indoors cat from now on, especially since his bandages need changed regularly. The only problem is he used to always meow when he had to go and I would let him outside. He has been inside since he got home and I cannot for the life of me get him to go in his box. I've tried several different boxes in different areas, different kinds of litters (Pine,Clumping, etc), putting the poop in the box after he's had an accident didn't work either. I even put the box over the place he pooped with the feces in it and he still went behind the fridge. Grrr......

So I did a little research and tried to confine him to an area, since I don't have one I put him in my dogs crate (which is more than big enough since the dog is 120 lbs) with the litter at one end and his food and water at another and locking him up when I left or slept, nothing....Even locking him up all the time....nothing.

I tried to put catnip in the boxes and he didn't even care. I always praise him when he's in the box too. And I never scold him when he's near his litter.

Sorry this is soooo long but I am soooooooooooooo frustrated, he has urinated on the stairs and my closet and I am sick of mopping. I love him to pieces and I am willing to do whatever it takes. He used to use his box a few years ago when I lived in the city and he learned that right away. I am ready to literally pull my hair out!!!!!!!!!!!I GREATLY appreciate any advice someone has to offer. Thanks.

I recently had a similar problem, and had to keep my outdoor cat indoors after medical attention. I had good luck with confining him to one room, with nothing on the floor that he might want to pee on except for the pan. I also gathered some dried leaves from a part of the yard where he likes to hang out and put them on top of the litter. He'd never used a pan before, but adapted pretty quickly. He did go on the floor once, but he was in there for three weeks, so that seems like a pretty good average.

I don't think a dog crate is a big enough space for an outdoor cat. Confinement in general is stressful for him, but a small space that is obviously a cage (plus, smells like another animal) will probably encourage him to rebel more. I would strongly recommend a larger space, so he can have a little variety in his day and keep himself a little more occupied.

I should note that I was unable to turn my cat into an indoor. Once I was ready to let him out of the room, he never stopped asking to go outside, and became really aggressive towards my other cats. He just didn't have an outlet for his energy, so I had to give in and let him return to his old habits. Good luck with yours, but remember that instincts are impossible for him to ignore.

Hmmm...this is unusual because most cats will find the litter box and go in it...it is a natural instinct for them to dig and cover their "doody". But, your cat seems to be confused about where it should go. I say keep doing what you are doing! Be persistent. Definitely lock him in the kennel while you are gone...with the litter box. You can't have him running all over the house going wherever. When you are home, let him out and watch him like a hawk. If he looks like he is trying to find a place to do his business then pick him up and put him in the box. If he does go somewhere else, bring him to his "package" and scold him and then go put him in his box.

Okay, he is a STUBBORN kitty. Don't discount the possibility that he's mad at you for not letting him out, so he's acting out by "going" where he shouldn't.

Normally, if you can confine a cat to a small room with his food/water somewhat near his litter box, they WILL use the box just because they want to cover their waste as much as possible due to the proximity to their food. (They think "yuck", too.)

You could try switching litters again - he may be used to dirt or sand - but just keep trying. He'll get it again eventually. Try putting him in the box a little while after a feeding. If you can catch him going elsewhere, grab him and put him in the box, then praise him. Some combination of the suggestions you've received are bound to work. GOOD LUCK!

Clean the litter box daily, empty it completely up to twice a week certainly at least once a week, and make sure the littler box is easy for the cat to access. Especially if they are infirm.

Cats like privacy too, so it should be in a place it is not afraid that the dog it going to corner or jump/ambush it. At least not while it is going.

There is also a spray called "Indoor NO". You have to condition the cat to know that when it smells that spray, it should stay away from it - it will not be automatic. But that might keep the cat away from where you do not want it to go.

The cat might have a bladder infection or other condition too. You should bring this behavior up with your vet. Call them on the phone. They might be able to recommend some things to try before your next visit to them rolls around. And, if those things do not work, they might want to run some tests.

girls-when you pee does the drips of pee get caugh in your pubic hair? and then when you wipe when you dont go #2, can you wipe back to front? how many times to you wipe, i think i do more than others, i use like 2 or 3 different pieces of toilet paper. does it sometimes go down your leg if you dont "aim" it?

I'm answering this question out of laughter.....

When I pee it will get caught in my pubic hair (since married my husband likes me to keep it a little trimed).

When i wipe when i don't go number 2 i still wipe forward to back, as there can still be bacteria and not so good things by your poop whole.

Most times i wipe with the same one twice (especially in public places as there toliet paper is not very absorbant and i know this probably contradicts the previous answer)

If I haven't gone for a while and have discharge and jazz sometimes i wipe it first then pee, then wipe again. or after going wipe with two different pieces of toliet paper.

Most of the time I don't really need to "aim" however if i'm at the right angel yes my pee will go up my thigh on one of my legs so i need to wipe that. And if i dont' wipe good it runs down my leg and annoys me.

I had a small cut glass bowl, with a lid that I kept on the back of the toilet. It held little things, like hair pins and clips.. (Very small bathroom, not much other place to keep this bowl)

Husband lifted the toilet lid to see why toilet wouldn't quit running. For some reason, he did not take my pretty little bowl off the toilet lid, first. Bowl slid off, into side of tub, and broke into several pieces.

Husband threw the bowl away because it was broken. Promised me a new bowl. But, he kept the lid, because that was "still perfectly good." It doesn't fit any other dish that I own, but it's still good.

What does cat ear wax look like? I see my kitty scratch only one of her ears. She doesn't scratch the other one a lot. Theirs a bit of less hair near the ears then the other one.Also she's an indoor cat. So, can she still get ear mites? I looked in her ears and I only saw really small pieces of brown(then she meowed and moved away). Its like sticky/waxish. They were on the bottom of her ear. But I think thats ear wax. She has a shot coming up on the 2nd so I will ask the vet then. I have 1 other cat and I checked his ear and he seems fine.(no brownish stuff) But my other cats bigger and harder to handle so i couldn't see it clearly.

actually rub her ears...especially the one she is scratching....if she cries they are biting her..they can get ear mites while being an indoor cat...what you can do to treat her that will not harm her is one part vinegar to two parts water..drop some into her ears keep her ear closed and rub it around..whatever it is it will go away...my older cat had some gunk in her ears after we got our newer kitten from the pound..it was mites..we did the dr prescribed meds and the over the counter it didnt work..we did the vinegar water combo suggested by a vet tech friend..it was gone in three days...

Sounds like kitty has ear mites. I'm glad you are taking her to the vet because the mites itch and kitty will scratch at them until her ear is bleeding. Cats don't get ear wax like people do.

You could try cleaning it to see what it is. Use baby oil and some cotton-balls or Q-Tips. But don't try to get anything that you see lodged inside the ear canal. Cats ears are very delicate and can be punctured easily.

I wouldn't chance ear mites, especially if you have another cat. Ear mites are fairly easy to treat but very contagious. If you cat has them, your second cat will have them soon. They sell over the counter ear mite medicine or go to a vet and get some. Make sure you get the kind that kills both the mites %26amp; the eggs. Or you will only kill the adults and once the egg hatch you will have the same problem all over again. the brown wax is bad ear mites....cat ears are usually clear....bad ear mites can cause hearing lost...i suggest using a q-tip (like a human's ear..only the tip of the qtip deep) till u see the vet...

Sounds like ear mites,, it is brown or blackness spots, also they will scratch their ears. If it gets real bad they will start shaking their heads, better have the kitty checked. Than to wait until it gets real bad. because it really bothers the cat.
