my new highschool (highschool!) wont let people where chains, as in necklaces or on their clothing (like gothic pants) and they wont allow bandanas, (as in the little square piece of cloth you wear over you hair) in school...who else finds this insanely power crazed?

I agree with your school. They are just looking out for you. Bandanas are gang paraphernalia and I would hate for you to get beat up for wearing the wrong color wouldn't you?
Trust me, it could be much worse. At my school, we can not wear ripped jeans, flipflops, lowcut shirts, hiphugger jeans or a whole plethora of other "in" stuff.
I am just thankful I don't have to wear a uniform.

I don't find it insanely power crazed...I think it's good that your school cares enough to not let people dress like punks. But I don't see a problem with bandanas at all. It's the chains and Gothic clothes that get me.

My school has banned that and so very much more. spaghetti strap tank tops, tube tops, short short skirts/shorts...
It sucks but it is a part of life, get used to it.

I think they are prefectly right to not that you wear bandana. They are sometimes symbols of gang colors and other related things and the school is protecting you. Chain can also be a safety concern. They are just trying to make sure everyone plays nice and noone gets hurt.

my school's dress code was worse than this we weren't allowed to wear pajama pants, or some sweat pants, athletic shorts, midriff baring tops. Plus skirts had to reach 6 inches above the ground while kneeling, and shirts had to have straps that were atleast three inches wide.
And only during august september and may we could wear flip flops and boys allowed to wear shorts, and girls capris.
some schools dress codes only allow you to wear kahkis and polos
and some actually require a uniform.
it's not that big of a deal, it's four miniscule years of your life.
besides it's supposed to help you learn how to dress professionally and for the real world. chains and bandanas aren't fashionable anyhow.
plus it's not power crazed. a school can make any rule about dress code if it feels that it could inspire violence or discomfort in the student body.

yes it is. schools are crushing are individuality and forcing everyone to conform to their perfect little rules. this is completely unfair and i would rebel by coming to school draped in chains with a bandana in my hair and as a belt. cheers to the unique ones...

i work at a school and its all in just trying to keep kids from forming groups that may be associated with gangs
usually the chain thing is for boys on their wallets.( they tend to take them off and use them to fight with)

I think its absolutely fair. You don't need to have "square pieces of cloth" on your head or "necklaces" on your clothes as you put it. Everything has a place and time and school is not the place for bandanas and school time is not the time to contemplate fashion standards. Spend school time wisely!

My middle school and high school bans wearing those too. I just find them both really tacky, so i don't really care about them.
